Learnings from session on 14th Nov

The following are the learnings of E-Business class held 14th Nov

The diminishing lines and business models of Apple, Facebook, Google and Amazon were discussed. The ever reducing differences in the totality of businesses done by these four players has been discussed. There was also a discussion whether there is a need for the above said companies to focus on core competencies or there is a shift in the core competencies as a whole.

One of the view points raise was that everything boils down to help the companies achieve their core competencies. Whatever google does is to increase the use of search engine. Whatever facebook does is to bring more number of people into online social ecosystem. Amazon entering into cloud computing focuses on the same point again.Google which started as a search engine, has started to come under the scanner of providing social media platform in form of Google+, YouTube, etc.

Though the offerings are same, there is a scope for every player to coexist and there has to be a clear and different target group. For ex: Many comapnies use google ad sense and ad words for redirecting traffic to their sites. But same companies use facebook for branding purposes and to increase awareness. This differentiation helps in sustaining each others place in the web world.
We have seen how different companies are using the different platforms to brand themselves or sell products. some of the examples we have seen were of Tanishq, Tata Motors. It all boils down to attracting the netizens and targeting them properly to communicate.

The ever blurring borders may lead to the e commerce companies rethinking their strategies. There is also a danger of the duplication of the spend as same type of customers might be targeted on different platforms. However, on the flip-side, this might help the company acquire a customer with more surety. At the end, everything comes down to ROI and there is a need to have a good social media strategy
