Emerging trends in Indian e-commerce space - 2013

The e-commerce Industry is moving towards becoming a more matured Industry in India, in the coming years. According to India Digital Review.com, the following are emerging as the major trends that contributing to this :

1)      Rise of M-commerce

The share of mobile internet traffic in the world is approximately 13%. Astonishingly, in India the percentage figures for mobile internet has now outweighed the desktop traffic. This has shifted the focus of Indian e-tailers to mobile commerce.

2)      Reducing product experience gap in e-tail

The information gap between what the customer wants and the product is has been going doing with companies introducing innovative technologies such as 'virtual try-on' in clothing and apparels. E,g Myntra.com

3)      Social platform for Online Reputation Management (ORM) & Engagement

The social media platform has now emerged as a medium for engagement and online reputation management rather than just attention catchers. This has been reiterated by the existence of a seamless communication across different social media platforms such as Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, google plus etc.

Product Videos are becoming the new way of disseminating information and customer engagement

4)       'Shoppable' Images & Videos

Shoppable images helps in creating a viosion of how the products will look in the place where they are to be used. This trend has been seen mainly in the home furniture segment.

Shoppable videos are being used in a similar way and can be used to portray the must have products of the season in an interactive manner.

5)      Re- Emergence of B2B

The Indian B2C e-commerce is currently valued at $14 billion and is predicted to reach $60-80 billion by 2025. But the huge opportunity in the future of Indian e-commerce is clearly B2B. Businesses buy larger basket sizes, and they buy more often in comparison to consumers. This trend has slowly started emerging in India.

6)      Age Profile

The age profile of Indian Internet users is predominantly young with 75% of users in the 15-34 age group. They are already booking movie tickets and buying apparels online and are comfortable with the use of e-commerce.

All these facts show that the e-commerce boom in India is here to stay for atleast the next few years !!
