This week, I would like to focus on the e business in France. More particularly, what are the major evolutions in this sector and the main tendencies today. By reading different articles from famous French economic newspapers, I have made a summary of what I learned.

First, I would start by saying that the e-commerce goes well. Over the first three months of 2012, the amount of sales on the Internet reaches 12 billion Euros that is 14 % of increase, according to the figures of the Federation of the e-commerce and the remote sale.
This progress is carried by the increase of the number of transactions and on-line buyers, in particular to most than 65 years.
At the same time, the number of retail websites also continues to progress.

With about 19.000 new sites of on-line sale create these last twelve months, France counts from now on 120 000 active sites of e-business.
At the end of 2012, France counted almost 32 million on-line buyers, and 117.500 active retail websites. Sales amounted last year to 45 billion Euros.
The e-business represents approximately 8 % of the whole retail trade in France. For 2013, a new global increase of the sales of 18 % is expected.

Nevertheless because of the reduction in the purchasing power, the average basket by transaction does not stop decreasing. After a 3 % backward drop in 2012, 2013 sees the amount of purchases falling again with 4 %. The average basket is now of 85 Euros.
It is the lowest amount never registered since these last two years.
However, the e-storekeepers remain optimistic, expecting an increase of their sales this year.

Indeed, the reduction in the average amount of purchase remains at the moment always compensated with the increase of the frequency of the orders, which reaches a "record" level.
The on-line sales of the sector of the clothing, already particularly affected by the crisis in store, move back of 7 % compared with the first quarter 2012. The sector of the e-tourism succeeds on the other hand in maintaining.

The sites of " marketplace " gathering several spaces of independent, professional or particular sellers, progress very strongly (50 %). The amount of their deals represents from now on 12 % of the sales of the sites.
Besides, the transactions on mobiles or tablets doubled these last twelve months.

I hope this resume well the situation of the e-business sector in France.

Thank you for your reading.

Lorène
