E-buss_blog entry_2

Dear Sir

Here is my second contribution to your blog.

In our last session we discussed the eight key elements that drives any business model. They are value proposition, revenue model, market opportunities, competitive environment, market strategy, organization development, competitive advantage, and management teams.

Further we learnt that there are three types of B2C models:

1.      Pure play like Flipkart, E-bay, and Webvan which failed at the end.

2.      Click and mortar which are offline models primarily but then made setups online also like FutureBazar, ShopperStop, Tesco, etc.

3.      Hybrid model which are at macro level like MakeMyTrip.

Some of the business models covered are as follows

1.      Portals like yahoo which are marketed as placed where consumers will want to start their web search, read emails, news, do shopping, music downloads and so on.

2.      E-tailers like Webvan which are similar to the bricks-and mortar stores, except that customers connect  to the Internet to check their inventory and place an order

3.      Content providers which focus only on content such as music, video, news, etc

4.      Community providers like Facebook, babycentre.com, etc creating a digital environment where people with similar interests can communicate and share.

5.      Transaction broker like Sharekhan, ICICI direct that processes transactions for consumers handled in person, by phone or by mail and in this process make money.

6.      Market creator like E-bay and Olx building a digital environment for buyers and sellers to meet

7.      Service provider like Google which offers variety of features like Google maps, Google doc, Gmail, etc

We also discussed the various success and failure stories of Google Maps, Webvan, Gopepper.com, Batmandelivers.com, Peapod.com, Redmart.com where the class had divided views and opinions for the reasons of success or failure.

Thanks & Regards
