Blog entry: Learnings from last class

In the last class, we learned about the different business models that are used to evaluate the performance and potential of e-businesses.

The EGG model emerged as one of the key models for discussion. It consists of 3 basic layers, as follows:
The CORE (yolk) : Represents the relatively fixed mindset (preferences, attitudes etc) of the consumer around which the e-business has to work
The OUTER LAYER : Represents the Capabilities, Partners & Assets that the e-business uses to cater to the customer's demands
The SHELL: Represents the external factors which are usually outside the circle of influence of the e-business, such as Govt. policies, economic environment etc.

The government controls such as mandatory implementation of Security protocol (HTTPS), PCI, OTP etc were discussed in detail.

The 8 ELEMENTS of a generic business model were discussed. Also, we learned about e-Bay's process of forming its VALUE PROPOSITION via the 5 elements of Positioning, Target, Benefits, Personality & Voice.

The classical case of an e-business failure was discussed by researching the case of Webvan.
