A brief history on e-commerce industry
This is a quick review from the 1st class of E-business. It sounds like a folklore but the evolution of e-commerce today is quite interesting and can be seen as a step by step correction in the business models as the time and world events took place.
| Source of Funding | Business Model | Business Focused On |
| Startup Period 1996 to 2000 | ||
| Venture Capitalists | Put No Money in Advertising | Innovation in Product and Services |
| 2001 Dot Com bubble burst: Money disappeared from the market. VC's backed out. | ||
| Banks | To make money on every transaction made | Save costs. Hundreds of Millions saved in B2C and Trillions saved in B2B segment |
| 2008 World Prosperity: B2B Business Models vanish. VC's reappear and focus shifts on Innovation. | ||
| Venture Capitalists | Advertisement Earnings | Innovation Again |
| WHAT NEXT? | ||
The history gives us the roller coaster ride taken by the e-commerce industry and cautions whether there will be another Bubble Burst in this industry in the time to come.
